Refugee House
Welcome to Refugee House. Crowded and basic, it’s typical of the temporary housing provided for asylum seekers and refugees living in Wales today.

Private space is limited. The bedroom, bathroom, living room and kitchen are shared. Cupboards are locked and food is labelled. Fixtures and fittings are broken and stained. Tenants must sign in and out. Friends are not allowed to stay. It’s hardly a place to call home.
The House has been created by asylum seekers and refugees from Cardiff, Newport and Swansea. From treasured personal possessions to bags of Home Office paperwork, each object tells a story of struggle and survival.
Facilitated by artists Dave Evans and Carwyn Evans, with support from Arts Council Wales.
