SPECIAL SCREENINGS AT PHOENIX SQUARE...

LAST RESORT + SHORT (15)

When a Russian woman arrives in Britain she expects to be met by her English boyfriend. But he abandons her and she applies for political asylum. She then enters the surreal hell of the UK Immigration Service. Introduction by Amanda Soraghan (Refugee Action) + panel discussion after the film.

15 Jun - Start time: 6.30pm - End time: 21.30pm

MOVING TO MARS + SHORT (12A)

This fascinating and unique insight into the effects of migration, dislocation and sheer amazement charts the epic journey of two Burmese families from a vast refugee camp on the Thai/Burma border to their new homes in the UK. Emotional but at times hilarious this is a refugee’s-eye-view of our world.

LILJA 4-EVER + SHORT (18)

A brave and still startling expose of the trade in young women from the so-called ‘New Europe’, 16-year old Lilja is persuaded by her pretty boyfriend to come from Estonia to Sweden where she becomes a trafficked sex slave. Introduction by Ryan Nelson (Leicester Refugee Action)

17 Jun - Start time: 6.15pm - End time: 8.30pm

UTOPIA + SHORT (U)

Laurel and Hardy’s final film together is a strange affair. Made in France, with a physically tired Stan and Ollie caught up in a satire about an island paradise invaded by greedy governments, this is a rare, rare public screening.
