All Change artists Heather Barnett and Poulomi Desai have worked with over 100 individual women and women’s groups to capture and express their amazing and moving stories of journeying to and settling in Islington, through creative workshops using video, sound and visual arts.
The Journey Travelled
Imagine having to leave your home through no choice of your own, leaving behind loved ones and possessions, travelling across the world with your children, and having to start again in a new country with a new language and culture. The Journey Travelled exhibition tells the personal stories of refugee women of all ages who have made Islington their home over the past 60 years and celebrates the contribution they have made to the Borough.
All Change artists Heather Barnett and Poulomi Desai have worked with over 100 individual women and women’s groups to capture and express their amazing and moving stories of journeying to and settling in Islington, through creative workshops using video, sound and visual arts.
‘’I’ve been working with women from all over the world, who have many different testimonies, and who share an experience of leaving one home to try to create another, navigating unimaginable situations and losing much along the way’, Poulomi Desai.
This mixed media exhibition expresses the experiences of women, of all ages and from over 20 different countries of origin – including Afghanistan, Albania, Eritrea, Somalia and many more.
