Refugee Week Scotland 2009 was based around the theme of HOME. HOME might be a place, a possession, or a feeling.

“I’m a student. Friends make home for me.”

“My husband means home to me. When I see him, I know I’m back.”

“Home’s a place where you feel like yourself.”

“Memories make home, definitely.”

“Fish and chips, bangers and mash.”

"Home is when I'm with my family."

"Home is where my pants and books are."

"Chilling Out: Sitting in the garden on a warm, sunny weekend with a few bottles of chilled cider, a good book and some belting Ska music on the IPod. Much as I love Edinburgh there's something chilling about escaping the thronging masses in Scotland's capital city and just sitting in solitude watching the world go by..."

"Family: Spending time with Jack and Hannah, my two loveable grandchildren aka the brats. Although I do fear for the world they are being brought up in, they are still at an innocent age and love and affection pour out at every opportunity..."

"A Bacon Roll and a Lie-In!: After a hard week at work, Saturday morning is bliss. The weekend lies ahead and having a bacon roll and a lie in lets you believe that, for a few hours at least, the world is a wondrous place..."

"Football on a Saturday: Heading to Tynecastle to see the mighty Heart of Midlothian. On those weekends when the game actually kicks off at 3.00pm on a Saturday that is. The pre-match atmosphere, weaving through crowds in Gorgie, the pre-match pint, the anticipation...sometimes this is better than the game itself!"

"Home is the people who love me."

"Sanctuaryfrom the outside world - a haven of peace."

"A young visiting student once told me that home is where the salt and pepper shakers are."

"Home - a place you can sleep safely and look forward to a new day."

"Home is somewhere safe, where I can be myself, where I can decide how things are."

"Home for me is my kitchen, cooking food for my family and friends, and - even better - eating it with them!"

"Right now home seems to be the university library where I go to revise after work everyday."

"It means a safe place with no distractions."

"Tea and toast, and the EastEnders omnibus with my partner."

"Somewhere warm, cosy and full of love."

"is where i make it. whatever the location"

"For me (an Italian ex-pat in Scotland), home is in my hubby's hug. With him, I'm at home everywhere"

"My parents' back garden with my husband, kids, brothers, their wives and my baby nephew"

"Home is both the country where I used to live (America) and the country where I choose to live (Scotland.)"

"It means a place where women walk free"

"A place to belong to."

"Home is where I am at Christmas."
