Welcome to Refugee Week in the South West!

This is Refugee Week’s 10th Anniversary, and the South West will be celebrating with a fantastic range of exciting and diverse events!

In 2007 loads events took place in throughout the region ranging from community events to football tournaments and from big music festivals to art installations.

We hope that you will help us celebrate our anniversary in style and make 2008 the biggest Refugee Week ever!

Refugee Week at Watershed

14th - 22nd June

As part of Refugee Week Watershed is delighted to present a season of screenings exploring the issues being faced and the contributions made by displaced communities from around the world.

The programme features highlights from Sheffield’s Documentary Film Festival including All White In Barking, Marc Isaacs’s incisive, often funny examination of modern attitudes in an increasingly multi-ethnic Britain, Cabal in Kabul, Dan Alexe’s compelling portrait of the twisted relationship that dominates the smallest Jewish community on earth, as well as Yamina Benguigi's powerful and revelatory film on the experiences of North African immigrants in France Mémoires d'immigrés.

Fee: all screenings are £6.00 full / £4.50 concessions unless otherwise stated. Free entry to Refugee Week screenings for Asylum Seekers (subject to availability), please present your ID Card at Box Office when collecting a ticket on the day of the screening.

Asylum Dialogues and Exiles Express

A night of theatre, spoken word & music.

Asylum Dialogues: Three inspiring encounters between British people and asylum seekers. Drawn from real life conversations, this play explores the positive transformations created by these friendships. Brought to you by Actors for Refugees in collaboration with Refugee Action.

Daphna Sadeh is a composer and bass player with a well established UK and international performance and recording career. In collaboration with her highly regarded band the Voyagers, Daphna has created a seemingly effortless inter-cultural soundscape combining Jewish, Middle Eastern and Meditteranean music traditions with Jazz. Her music takes the listener on a journey - you really do feel like you are travelling. The melodies and rhythms are memorable and spell binding.

This special Exiles Express performance also features the outstanding Kurdish vocalist Nawroz Oramari.
