The ninth annual Refugee Week was a huge success with over 400 events taking place accross the UK, from seminars to music festivals, ping -pong championships to live art instalations. The diversity of events was wider than ever before with an increase of events being organised by organisations outside of the refugee sector.
The national launch of Refugee Week 2007 took place in Birmingham as part of the Celebrating Sanctuary festival on June 16th.
Media Campaign
The 2007 media campaign was focused on the positive relationships that are formed everyday between refugees and British born people - from friends to neighbours to work colleagues.
The campaign promoted this in two ways:
- The Refugee Week team and their partners collected a number of diverse case studies from around the UK that highlight these positive relationships. Short interviews were produced which were promoted to various media outlets.
- A report into the number of volunteer hours that are given toward refugee issues by people in the UK was commisioned and promoted alongside the case studies.
