January - Learn to say a few things in another language

Each newsletter we flag up something which lets you complete a Simple Act. This month, mostly ‘cos one of us has started a Mandarin course, we thought we’d learn to say a few words in another language!

To begin with, here’s how to make friends in Arabic

And an important word in Mandarin

This friendly teacher has 10 free lessons at LanguageBite.com.

Fun huh? Depending on who you’re talking to, here’s how to say ‘Hello’ in 44 other languages!

Check out the ‘Learn a few things in another language’ pages for more ways to start a conversation or get hold of a tasty wheat treat in Arabic, Mandarin and Somali.

Of course, if you want to learn a bit more than ’hello’ and ‘want a scone?’, why not enrol on a language course (they usually take place at colleges or libraries during evenings). Visit Hot Courses for a whole list of language courses near you.

Or why not join a language exchange or a befriending group? This usually involves teaching someone your native language in return for them teaching you theirs. This is really fun way of getting personal tuition whilst meeting new refugees in your area.

Here’s a whole bunch of befriending groups

Add this act to the Action Counter
