The big question last year was:
What can YOU do to make refugees feel more welcome?
We invited schools around the UK to make a banner with their messages of welcome for refugees. We had fantastic responses and a huge range of different approaches and interpretations.
THE OVERALL WINNER WAS...
WESTMINSTER CITY SCHOOL
We've decided that the overall winner of the competition is Westminster City School. Twenty students sent in entries and we liked them all because each one gave the closest answer to our question. ‘What can you do to make refugees more welcome?’ Each student's banner demonstrates their individual ideas and personal responses.
So, a big congratulations go to Gospel Ngoke, Pierpaolo Piazza, Caleb Quaye, Mohammed Bokari, Babatunde Gbolahan, Kaiwan Kadir, Hudson Scott, Rahin Miah, Jacob Howe, Nathaniel Kennedy, Jordan Smith, Kyle Carpio, Karim Afer, Iman Chowdhury, Nicholas Willoughby, Andrzej Zaczkowski, Reece Codrington, Shahed Ahmed, Shahraun Wahid and Malakie Sealey! Oh, and not forgetting Mr Vanderpuye, EAL Coordinator, for organising it, Mrs Bookal-Downes for taking all the pictures and the form tutor Mr Latimer.
But it doesn't stop there. We received so many great entries that we've also chosen two runners up!
BEST BANNER GOES TO...
Riddlesdown Collegiate
We think the artwork and message on this banner is fantastic! These four students agreed that the most significant and welcoming act to make refugees feel more welcome would be to open a door. Congratulations to Megan Stewart – Year 10, Sadie Forrester – Year 9, Larhubarbe – Year 9, and Bradley Moirt – Year 7. And thanks to Ms Somovilla for the snap!
BEST IMAGE GOES TO...
Class 4E of Salusbury Primary School
We love the obvious joy that's gone into making this whole scene. We think Class 4E had a LOT of fun this day and it makes us wish we were back at school :O) Thanks go to Miss Young for the excellent picture!
And BIG THANKS to EVERYONE that took part in our competition. We hope you enjoyed making your banners as much as we've enjoyed looking at them!
