What can YOU do to make refugees feel more welcome?
This is how you can take part and win in our national competition.
The Simple Act campaign is about inspiring people to use small, everyday actions to change our perception of refugees. In 2009, more than 7000 people completed and recorded their simple act on our website.
This year we would like schools to think about a 21st action: their personal one.
And this is how to take part in our competition:
We'd like you to answer one simple question:
"What Simple Act would you do to make refugees feel more welcome?"
- Think about what simple act you can do to make refugees more welcome
- Create a banner with your thoughts
- Take a picture of you and your classmates holding it
- Send your picture to info@refugeeweek.org.uk
It’s as simple as that.
The rules bit:
- There are no limits to who can enter this competition. You can enter as a class, school or as individual person.
- When sending us your picture, please include your name, class, school and your contact details. This would ideally be an email address and/or your telephone number.
- Please send your pictures in jpeg, tiff or bmp format.
- Please be aware that we have to get the permission of your parents to publish your picture on our website. Please ask your parents to fill in and sign the parental permission form, which can be downloaded here. Your teacher will collect and file them for us. (This is important! We will not be able to count your entry if you don’t have your parents consent).
Please send in your entry by Friday, 18 June 2010. The winner will be announced on 30 June 2010.
Please note we've now moved the deadline to the 18 June.
There are no limits to your imagination. The important thing for us is to see an idea and the thought behind your message.
The best entry will get an “X-Factor style” treatment with us visiting your school, taking pictures and a video with interviews and a little portrait of everyone involved. (Parental permission provided). Runners-up will get their banners displayed on the Simple Acts website.
We wish you lots of fun with it and good luck in winning our competition!
