I attended the Umbrella Parade and talked to people on the way and on arrival at the park. Wonderful work you are all doing!!!

I attended Celebrating Sanctuary on the South Bank

I took part in the World Refugee Day Umbrella Day Parade as a Steward!! I had a really great time and what a beautiful day!!!!

Visited a refugee organisations afternoon tea

Last week I went to 12 Refugee Week events, these included the Refugee Week launch event at Norwich City Council, an evening of poetry readings of work by exiled writers (Salem Zenia, Easterine Kire Iralu and Faraj Bayrakdar whose work Mirrors of Absence I love), I visited two digital story exhibitions In Other People's Shoes and Letters to Europe which over 3746 people came to see, I went to several human library events (and was a book for two of these - sharing my father's story), I also went to a wonderful a talk about a relationship of support reflecting the kindness of strangers towards refugees and asylum seekers and finally, enjoyed the very positive and welcoming atmosphere at the community cuisines event.
I love everything about Refugee Week, what it stands for and the possibilities to make a difference through the opportunities created for different groups in the community to engage with eachother in a variety of different settings.

It was in hounslow Manor School, we did a turkish dance. It was an event by the Refugee Council.

I've been to 4 Refugee Week events in Norwich this week - I enjoyed meeting the Lord Mayor at the launch event at City Hall; ate lots of yummy food at the Community Cuisines party; was a human book in Living Library and enjoyed watching an international football match at the Family Fun Day.

I went to see 'By Reservation Only', a play by EMTAS at World Museum Liverpool

I went to an event at the Punjabi Community Centre in Swindon and helped out on a stall selling jewellery made by some of the visitors to the Harbour Project drop in centre.

I helped an amazing group of refugee women with their food stall, spice caravan, at celebrating sanctuary. It was fantastic and the food was fabulous!

Today I popped in at the Peckham Theatre for a Refugee Week event with lots of delicious food from almost all continents in the world and performances!

On Wednesday at Southwark Day Centre for Asylum Seekers clients, volunteers and staff members - we all celebrated the Refugee Week!

I went to Staying – Dream, Bin, Soft Stud and Other Stories, a series of dramatised monologes from asylum seekers who have been persecuted for their sexuality. It was a spoken word event held in the dark at the Free Word centre. Participants had taken on dramatic personas to discuss their feelings of distress, not only from their experiences in their home countries, but also the degradation of the asylum system and how it deals with LGBT asylum seekers. It was a really powerful piece, with many of the audience having no previous idea of how the system has traumatised people. An interesting event in a novel format!

I had a fantastic days at Celebrating Sanctuary on the South Bank. The people, food, music, and sunshine came together to remind everyone present what a valued contribution refugees make to our society and how important it is for us to keep working to protect the long-suffering asylum seekers who find themselves here.

I attended Living is Silence a photography exhibition held by UNHCR in London. A very moving and insightful collection of photographs. It was hugely interesting to learn about the lives of the Rohingya refugees whose plight is very little known. I was also interested to learn about the roles of other organisations within the camp, such as WFP.

As part of a group of volunteers on a programme called Global Xchange, I, and 17 team mates from the UK and the Philippines, attended a fantastic Refugee Council Celebration Event at Hounslow Manor School. The festival celebrated the refugee community of the UK; its culture, variety, opportunities for learning and most importantly, the people it brings to our nation. The event featured food from around the world, Kurdish traditional dance, Tamil traditional dance, an Iranian comic, a Bosnian singer, an Iranian pianist and composer, Nepalese dancing, Indian dancing and Filipino song from our team. I was honoured to have been invited to such a warm and positive sharing of food, friendship and culture.

Visited the Hounslow Manor School event. Met lots of wonderful people from a load of refugee communities, shared their food and listened to their music and other culture. Fantastic event, wonderful people!

I visited the Celebrating Sanctuary event on saturday 13th June. It was a fantastic experience. I really enjoyed the music, delicous food and interesting information. I will definately go again next year.

I attended Celebrate Sanctuary on the Southbank as well as last week's panel discussion at the BFI hosted by Refugee Action and Brightwide. Amazing!

Visited Celebrating Sanctuary on the South Bank on 13 June

I visited the 'Celebrating Sanctuary' fair and helped out at the Refugee Council stand for a little while. A mong other things, a student of English at the Refugee Council (where I am a voluntary teacher) showed me around an exhibition for Women Asylum Seekers Together. All very informative.

I went to Celebrating Sanctuary. As always it was brilliant. Fabulous music, good food and lovely people! A fantastic opportunity to celebrate the contributions refugees have made to the UK.

I helped to run an event for Refugee Week including a Human Library where people could come and listen to a Refugees personal story.

Actually I volunteered at Celebrating Sanctuary - specicially for the Refugee Council's Human Library. it was amazing that the 'human books' were able to tell their refugee stories, and was both moving and inspiring.

I went down to London's Southbank to the brilliant Celebrating Sanctuary festival. It was a gorgeous sunny day, the food was amazing and there were people buzzing around the perfomance tents. Kate Tempest in the Acoustic tent was a personal favourite. It's the second year that I've been to this, and it really did feel like a celebration :-)

My wife, daughter and I really enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere at the Celebrating Sanctuary festival today.

I went to Sanctuary Celebration. The music and food from all parts of the world. There were many organisations with their stall (among them the one that I'm volunteering for). It was really great!

I talked about Refugee Week to a regular residents group at our office. Gave out information and discussed some issues. We have decided to invite someone from Asylum Link to the next meeting and everyone present promised to read the information and try to find out more.

RSAMD's Simple Act was to present Fugee by Abi Morgan at the Scottish Parliament - fabulous use of the arts to challenge ourselves and the politicians.
